How Do I Choose a Corrugated Box?

Many people know corrugated boxes, but do not know how to choose? Not sure what type to choose, here I introduce a few commonly used to you. Just FYI.

First, you need to look at the flute outline. The most commonly used flutes are A, B, C, E, and F, with A being the largest. Your flute size determines the thickness of the corrugated box wall and the strength of the stack. A flute is the original corrugated flute, the thickest flute outline you can use. An “A “flutes are about 5 mm thick, making them an excellent choice for products that require more cushioning or extra strength for stacking.

The B flute is the next section to be developed, about 3.2 mm thick, It is a very popular choice for die-cutting designs.

The C flute is about 4 mm thick and is the most commonly used today.

  • Flute Height: 11/64”

E-type cardboard helps to reduce storage space. It has excellent compression resistance and excellent printed surfaces. It is commonly used for display shelves, pizza boxes, ballot boxes and packaging of consumer goods such as glass, ceramics and cosmetics.

E and F are 1.6 mm and 0.8 mm respectively, the latest development, usually used for retail packaging, printing than the previous several strong.

In addition, you also need to know the type of board, there are four types of board that can be used for corrugated boxes. The most commonly used types are single-walled and double-walled.

F-type paperboard has an excellent printing surface and excellent compression resistance. Its thin structure allows harder boxes to be made with less fiber. Commonly used for cosmetics, jewelry, shoes and other consumer goods fast food flip container and packaging.

  • Flute Height: 1/32”

Single Face Board: a piece of lining stuck to a piece of corrugated paper. This type of plate is usually sold in rolls and can be used to wrap the product to provide protection or cushioning.

Order of Layers: Fluting, liner

Uses: Interior packaging

Single Wall Board

One sheet of corrugated paper stuck between the two linings. Single siding is the most common type of board on the market and can be used for everything from shipping boxes to retail displays.

  • Order of Layers: Liner, fluting, liner
  • Uses: Shipping cartons

Double Wall Board

Two pieces of corrugated paper stuck between three pieces of backing paper. The plate is usually used for heavier products or products requiring stronger boxes for transportation.

  • Order of Layers: Liner, fluting, liner, fluting, liner
  • Uses: Industrial cartons

Triple Wall Board

Three sheets of corrugated paper stuck between four sheets of backing paper. This type of plate is the strongest of all and is commonly used for industrial parts or production boxes.

  • Order of Layers: Liner, fluting, liner, fluting, liner, fluting, liner
  • Uses: Shipping crates, chemical containers
